This work comprises a fascinating account of the business affairs of a struggling country papermaker in England during the years 1831-1868. In particular, they do much to illustrate the transition to steam power for converting rags into pulp, during a period of time when traditional paper-makers were being rapidly replaced by paper-making machines.
